Building the Portal Table with Patinated Copper

Building the Portal Table with Patinated Copper

In the video, I show how I built a hall table from start to finish. I started by carefully selecting the materials for the table, including a gorgeous mahogany slab for the tabletop and a Steel Disk that I used as a solution to add copper to the steel.  Through much trial and error, I patinated the copper for a beautiful old-world look.

I also showed how to create the joinery for the table, such as mortise and tenon joints for the legs and stretcher. In addition, I provided some tips and techniques on how to install a bowtie into the slab tabletop.

One of my favorite features of this table is the copper portal, which adds an artistic touch to the design. I showed how I created a segmented ring and incorporated it into the table’s overall structure.

The rendering was created in SketchUp, and if you would like to know more about the table, visit my Custom Furniture website.

In this blog, I talk about the art I create, my journey, and the things I learn along the way.
